Based on a series of young adult fiction novels written by LJ Smith, The Vampire Diaries TV show revolves around a high school girl Elena Gilbert who is torn between two vampire brothers - one good, one evil. Orginally published as a trilogy, the author was persuaded to add a fourth book in the series by fans, Dark Reunion which was released in 1992. The themes of The Vampire Diaries deal with loyalty and belonging. Although Elena Gilbert is the most popular girl in school, being an orphan, does not have close family ties. She feels isolated in her town of Falls Church but soon finds a bond with newcomer, Stefan who is a vampire. |
